I'm building a niche database site
that combines elements of a media company, a directory, and a calendar
all within a specific vertical. Think somewhere between how very scaled
back version of Crunchbase used to operate and how Exploding Topics currently works: structured, searchable data presented alongside editorial content and event coverage.
The site is already live with articles and event listings. The next phase starting this week is
layering in the directory/database functionality using the Voxel theme on WordPress.
The concept is fully defined.
What needs work is the technical implementation inside Voxel and some UI decisions around where data gets surfaced and how it's displayed. This is an MVP engagement, so the
priority is getting the core experience working cleanly, not building
everything at once.
What I Need Help With
1. Voxel Template Not Applying to Listings
I've built a single listing template inside Voxel but it's not applying
to individual listing pages they fall back to a generic layout instead.
I need this diagnosed and fixed as a first step.
2. Directory Setup One Core CPT
I have one main dataset/post type to configure. This includes field
setup, template design, and making sure listings display correctly on
the front end.
3. Paywall / Membership Setup
Some content will be free; premium content (exclusive data, interviews)
will require a subscription. I don't just want content hidden I want a
proper paywall experience where visitors see a teaser and a clear
call-to-action prompt like "Want to see more? Subscribe for full access" before hitting the gate.
4. UI Guidance
Some decisions about where data is featured on the page still need to
be tested and refined. I'm open to input here from someone who's built
similar things before.
