Get started with film photography

This 1:1 Film Fundamentals workshop is suitable for absolute beginners or those with past experience who want to brush up on skills and reignite their creative spark ✨

Here's the plan We'll meet at a cafe and start with an introduction to photography basics with a focus on the analog process — natural light, composition, manual camera settings, and how to load 35mm film. Then, it's time to get creative! Enjoy the hands-on learning experience during our guided photowalk through Amsterdam's iconic Jordaan neighborhood.  You'll also receive a custom workbook with creative prompts to continue practicing on your own.

This custom 1:1 workshop is tailored to your learning style and creative pursuits. During this 3 hour one-on-one session, you'll receive individual attention while covering the basics of film and the opportunity to choose two creative themes to focus on.

Meet your instructor

Lily is a travel writer and photographer with over 20 years of experience shooting film. Her work has been published in Lonely Planet, Fodor's Guidebooks, iAmsterdam, Tripadvisor, and more. She also teaches workshops at Doka107, a film photography collective and darkroom studio in Amsterdam.

Passionate about helping others fall in love with the art of film photography, Lily shares creative inspiration, analog adventures, and tips for visual storytelling on her blog and YouTube channel.

Classic SLR models are available to rent (Canon A1 or Canon AE-1) and include a roll of 35mm film *€100 refundable deposit required for all rental
