Hello, and thank you for taking the time to be here.
My name is Silke, and I'm carrying out this independent community research project because I want to listen and learn from the real experiences of transgender and gender-diverse people.
My motivation is personal. My daughter began her transition several years ago, and since then I've had the privilege of supporting her while also witnessing many of the everyday challenges that transgender people can face. Some were practical, some emotional, and many were things I had never considered before.
Over time, I've also become increasingly aware that, while progress has been made in many places, there are still barriers, misunderstandings and, in some parts of the world, rights and freedoms that are becoming more uncertain. It made me realise how important it is to listen to the people living these experiences rather than making assumptions about what they need.
My hope is that this research will help identify practical ways to improve everyday life—whether through better products, more inclusive services, clearer information, stronger communities or simply greater understanding.
This questionnaire is anonymous, and there are no right or wrong answers. Please answer only the questions you feel comfortable answering.
As you complete the survey, I'd like to invite you to think about your whole journey. This might include:
before you recognised or accepted that you might be transgender,
while questioning your identity,
during social or medical transition (if applicable),
or later in life if you decided to transition as an older adult.
Please don't feel you need to focus only on transition itself. I'm equally interested in the everyday moments that can have a big impact on daily life—finding clothes that fit, using public services, shopping, travelling, work, family life, hobbies, healthcare, paperwork, or simply feeling welcome and understood.
Whether your experiences have been positive, difficult, or somewhere in between, every story matters.
