The slow drip. Sarcasm, digs, denying what they said before

Blame and accusations. Somehow it's always your fault

Using the kids as leverage. Guilt trips, "the kids said," manipulation through them

Open attack. Name-calling, threats, walls of text

The dread starts before I even see whose name it is

My body goes into overdrive, racing heart, shaking hands, can't focus

I read it three or four times trying to figure out what they really mean

It stays with me for hours - at work, in bed, with my kids

Setting boundaries. Telling them what you won't engage with

Trying not to take it personally. Mindset, breathing through it

Replying short and factual. No engagement with the bait

They walk on eggshells around me when my phone goes off

They've started taking care of me, asking if I ate, if I slept, if I'm okay

They've changed, stomachaches, sleep problems, pulling away, things they didn't used to do

Their name comes up and nothing happens in my body

Sleeping the whole way through. No drafting replies in the dark

The childhood my kids were supposed to have

Feeling like myself again. The one I was before any of this
