full-time backend engineer job application

At nicelium, we create AI-powered recycling bins that autonomously sort waste.
They are designed and manufactured in Cluj-Napoca, with a strong mission to eliminate waste contamination in public spaces, right from the source. To accelerate the solution of a worldwide issue, we redesigned the system, rather than relying only on human behaviour improvement.

As our backend engineer,

you will bring our technology to life through clean code and strong software design patterns. You will be part of a now small, but growing, motivated team. Here, your work has immediate impact, and your curiosity and initiative are valued as much as technical skills. 

What you’ll do 

- Develop and maintain user-facing applications & contribute to the decision of the technologies used 

- Build and maintain backend APIs 

- Collaborate with backend and AI engineers to create seamless experiences 

- Contribute to building design patterns and code best practices 

- Integrate machine learning models into production services 

- Maintain strong test coverage and follow deployment best practices 

- Research, explore and experiment 

- Work in a greenfield environment where your ideas shape the product from day one

 

What we’re looking for 

The most important criteria: curiosity, creativity, and the drive to keep learning 

- 3 years of professional experience  

- Completed bachelor's degree in computer science, automation, or a related technical field 

- Strong knowledge of modern Python techniques 

- REST API development (FastAPI a plus, but Flask/Django REST experience transfers) 

- Git/PR-based workflow 

- Docker / containerization 

- Embedded/IoT development experience 

- ML model-serving exposure 

- AWS experience (nice to have) 

What we need to know about before 

- Proof of passion for tech: a personal project, open-source contribution, or similar  

- Someone based in or near Cluj-Napoca (hybrid work, mostly remote)
