Visualization of narratives: evaluation of an interactive dashboard

As part of my Master's dissertation in Informatics and Computing Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, I would like to ask for your help in completing this survey.
The project explores ways of representing stories visually. Instead of reading a narrative text from beginning to end, what if we could see, on a single screen, who appears at each moment, where each scene takes place, how the characters relate to one another throughout the story, and which events lead to others? That was the idea behind the tool evaluated in this study: an interactive dashboard that shows different aspects of a narrative (characters, locations, events, interactions) through several complementary views.
The goal of this survey is to understand how intuitive and useful these visualizations are for readers like you, even without any prior background in data visualization or narrative analysis.

Participation is voluntary, and you may stop the questionnaire at any time without needing to give a reason

The survey is implemented on the Tally platform, is anonymous, and does not collect any information that could identify you. The data will be used solely for academic research purposes and analysed in aggregate form, and will be deleted after the dissertation defence (expected at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year).

Throughout the study, a short video of the dashboard will be shown, with appropriate captions. There are no right or wrong answers, as we are interested in your spontaneous reaction.

Duration: 8 to 10 minutes
