Who We Are:
Buffalo Undergraduate Consulting Group (BUCG) is a professional consulting club that provides students who are interested in working in the consulting industry with the opportunity to develop important business skills such as analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills through practical hands-on experience.
What You'll Do:
As a Consultant on our client engagement teams, you'll work alongside University at Buffalo's top minds on a case that reshapes a business's strategic decisions. For Project Novus, you will be part of a consulting team for
Niagara County Center for Economic Development.
1. Modernize Lending & Underwriting - Evaluate NCCED’s current lending and underwriting practices and recommend an updated framework for serving small and mid-sized businesses that may be underserved by traditional banks. Explore modernized loan guidelines, risk-management strategies, and sustainable models for expanding NCCED’s long-term lending capacity.
2. Expand Funding & Strategic Partnerships - Identify new funding sources, strategic partnerships, and marketing opportunities that can expand the reach and visibility of NCCED’s lending programs. Assess opportunities with philanthropic foundations, businesses, educational institutions, and cross-border partners to attract investment and strengthen Niagara County’s economic development ecosystem.
3. Drive Community & Economic Impact - Develop strategies that connect NCCED’s financing to broader community development and regional growth. Explore ways for recipient businesses to give back through nonprofits, workforce development, student engagement, and community initiatives, while evaluating innovative programs—such as entrepreneurial competitions or business-attraction models—that could bring new businesses and investment to Niagara County.
- Be a current University at Buffalo undergraduate student
- Be an official member of the Buffalo Undergraduate Consulting Group (BUCG) (See Aidan for clarification)
- Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA (email Aidan if you are below a 3.0)
The project will run for 7-9 weeks from the project commencement and is an unpaid opportunity. Consultants should be committed and willing to dedicate the required amount of time to ensure a successful deliverable, and will be expected to uphold BUCG standards.
