The Haven Principles

Here is a list of our guiding principles. We're nowhere near perfect, and sometimes like to say we're "flying the plane as we build it." That being said, it's important that we are all aware of these principles and utilize them as a "north star" for carrying the mission forward. Please read through these and only continue the form once that is done.

1. Inspiration & Creativity

The Haven is a statement of limitless possibility. Through novelty and immersive spaces, we foster inspiration and authentic creative expression.

2. Wholistic Wellness

We offer a space of community support, harm reduction, and safety to promote mental, emotional, and physical well-being. By prioritizing individual and collective healing, art emerges as a natural byproduct.

3. Empowered Self-Reliance

We value each individual’s capacity to be self-sufficient and interdependent. When we take initiative and rely on both our internal and external resources, we become more individually and collectively empowered.

4. Collaboration & Co-creation

Alongside self-reliance, we value every individual’s ability to lean on community when needed and offer support in return when capable. This synergy of working together enables the Haven to be an experiment of intentional co-creation.

5. Diversity & Inclusion

We believe resilience is rooted in a variety of perspectives, belief systems, and cultural or personal identities. We are committed to holding an inclusive and welcoming container for those who respect our community.

6. Accountability & Integrity

By aligning our values with our actions, we aim to create a harmonious environment full of responsibility and respect. This emerges through the practice of mindfulness and transparent communication.

7. Equity & Reciprocity

We aim to create a sustainable culture of fairness and equal energy exchange. Through transparent agreements, this can take many forms including compensation, trade, acts of service, gifting, and more.

8. Growth Mindset

The Haven is a fertile ground to cultivate potential. By embracing challenges as opportunities and using affirmative words and actions, we bring forth an alternative model for co-creation and community.

9. Alternative Education

By its nature, The Haven is a platform for collective and individual learning, inviting diverse forms of knowledge, skills, and resources. We value the opportunity to share our own ideas while also bringing in outside expertise.

10. Play & Curiosity

We believe in curating an environment that embraces the inner child. This clears the path for deep transformation, community engagement, and creative brilliance to emerge out of the mundane.

What does the word "community" mean to you?

We have decided to adopt a shared stewardship model, in which everyone is a steward of the community in some capacity. This is truly OUR community. When problems arise WE solve them. When deficits arise WE come up with solutions. With shared responsibility we can build a more sustainable structure.
