‘Mirador Artistries Collective’ Submissions Portal

We are a recently established collective of writers and artists with an interest in promoting the Portuguese Canadian cultural experience through short stories, non-fiction, poetry, and art to explore Luso Diasporic themes with readers of Milénio.

In the near future, we will be welcoming submissions from writers and artists who wish to share their work with MAC for possible publication in a monthly ‘Mirador’ feature in the Milénio newspaper. The first anticipated publication date is September 4, 2026. We thank Manuel da Costa and the team of Milénio for opening this space where we can share our work.

We invite writers, poets, and storytellers—voices new and old—to contribute to the Luso Diasporic Literary Project, a celebration of the Portuguese diaspora and its many lived experiences. This project seeks work that reflects the textures of migration, memory, language, belonging, displacement, inheritance, and reinvention across generations and geographies. Let’s talk about the Portuguese diaspora experience—intimate or collective, historical or contemporary, rooted or in motion.

Submission Guidelines

Fiction and Creative Non-Fiction: up to 1,500 words

Poetry: up to 30 lines

Languages: Submissions accepted in Portuguese or English

Theme: It is suggested but not mandatory that submissions have thematic or concrete relevance to the human experience in the Luso Diaspora, or in the Lusosphere.

Format: Submissions should be double spaced in 12 point Times New Roman. The title should be contained on the footer of every page. Submissions are anonymous and no information identifying the author should be included in the actual submission.

NOTE: Submissions previously posted on an author’s personal blog or socials are acceptable. Absolutely no submissions completed with the use of AI are acceptable.

Deadline: September 30, 2026

Selection & Prize

The winning submission will be prioritized by a panel of Luso-Canadian writers for publication in the ‘Mirador’ feature of Milénio, with both paper and shareable online editions.

Whether you are writing from memory, imagination, or lived experience, we encourage you to share your story and help expand the literary record of our diaspora.

The goal of our project is to give additional space and new readers to the growing number of writers, established and new, writing about our diaspora.
