A Guided Musical Walk of London's Soho - Christmas Special

Santa Claus is Coming to Soho takes you on a musical journey through the heart of London’s most creative square mile. Our festive walk reveals how Soho shaped the soundtrack of the season. Along the way you’ll meet the songwriters, performers and exiles who made the songs that define Christmas.

You’ll come away seeing Soho — and Christmas — differently: a place and season where creativity, protest and belonging meet. In exploring the story of the seasonal popular song, we begin in Georgian London with masquerade balls. From wassailing to Wham!, the puritans to The Pogues, the streets of Soho tell a story of how Christmas songs have celebrated, offended, satirised and glorified in equal measure.

Saturday 13 December, join us for a guided walk that mixes music history with festive spirit. We’ll stop at the sites where hits were written and recorded, uncover forgotten tales behind familiar tunes, and listen to how changing times created our soundtrack of Christmas.

We began these walks in 2021 with a hand-drawn map, a Spotify playlist, and the idea that music was an ideal way of exploring Soho's rich history. The walks draw on the research and photography we have shared on Substack.

💷  Pay-what-you-feel donation to Centrepoint, the Soho based homeless charity

The walk is free, but we’re asking people to donate directly what they think our walk is worth to Centrepoint — the charity that supports young homeless people. We will give you details of how to donate direct to them on the day.
Wheelchair access on the walk is possible, though please note that some parts of the route have narrow pavements and may be crowded. We check the whole route the day before to ensure there are no access issues. If you have mobility or other needs, please let us know in advance. By joining this walk, you agree to look after your own safety and belongings. We’ll guide the stories and the route, but your wellbeing is your own responsibility.
