Call for Applications: "Advanced Writing Workshop on

Forced Displacement in Southeast Asia" 2024

Introduction
This advanced writing workshop is designed for advanced graduate students, ideally those enrolled in Master’s or Ph.D. programs at Thai universities and independent and visiting scholars affiliated with Thai universities. Successful applicants must submit drafts of parts of their dissertations or dissertation chapters. Relevant faculty members at Chiang Mai University or other universities in Thailand and their peers at the workshop will provide feedback on the student's work. This workshop is sponsored by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada.
Objectives
This writing workshop has three aims. Firstly, the workshop will provide participants with faculty feedback to improve their work. Secondly, it will also provide an opportunity for the participants, who are all advanced postgraduate students or engaged in independent research at postgraduate level, to learn from each other about how they conduct research and to understand the value of peer review at an early stage in their academic journey. Thirdly, it will also create synergy and collective scholarship as the faculty members and graduate students work together to produce knowledge.
Qualifications & Requirements
Eligible applicants should be
• Those enrolled in Master’s and PhD programs in Thailand; and independent researchers and visiting scholars affiliated with universities in Thailand;
• Those working on forced displacement, broadly defined, in Southeast Asia; and
• Those with strong academic English skills.
Funding support
RCSD will provide meals and refreshments during the workshop. For those living outside Chiang Mai, support only domestic transportation; minimum funding will cover accommodation, field trip expenses, and travel expenses to Chiang Mai.
*** Successful applicants will be required to submit drafts of 5,000-10,000 words by 22 October 2024, to be revised following feedback at the workshop and thereafter, and to be published in a volume to be edited by Dr Nyi Nyi Kyaw, Research Chair on Forced Displacement in Southeast Asia.
