Position Overview

We’re seeking a highly skilled Fullstack TypeScript Engineer to build, maintain, and scale production-grade web applications across Phrasly’s AI tool ecosystem. You’ll work closely with our engineering leadership to develop new internal and customer-facing features, optimize backend services, and ensure clean, efficient, and maintainable code across the stack. This role demands someone who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment—capable of balancing velocity with code quality, thinking critically about architecture, and seamlessly moving between backend logic and frontend interfaces.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain fullstack applications using Next.js, TypeScript, Express.js, Prisma, and PostgreSQL. • Integrate and utilize LLM APIs (OpenAI, Claude, etc.) across backend systems. • Create fast, responsive UIs with React and TailwindCSS. • Ensure clean, scalable, and maintainable code across frontend and backend. • Leverage caching techniques, background jobs, and performance optimizations with Redis. • Support deployment and containerization workflows using Docker. • Collaborate with product, design, and AI teams to build reliable, high-impact tools.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in fullstack development using TypeScript, Next.js, and Node.js/Express.js. • Strong experience with PostgreSQL, Prisma, and backend architecture design. • Experience integrating LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic/Claude, etc.) and building AI-driven applications. • Familiarity with Redis, Docker, and modern build/deployment workflows. • Strong understanding of code scalability, maintainability, and clean architecture principles. • Excellent debugging, optimization, and problem-solving skills. • Self-motivated and able to work independently in a remote environment. • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with payment processing APIs (PaddleJS, StripeJS, etc.).
• Knowledge of authentication and authorization best practices (JWT, OAuth, etc.).
• Prior experience in a startup or fast-paced environment.
• Understanding of system design, API rate-limiting, and distributed caching.
• Familiarity with AI tool development, prompt engineering, or model integration workflows.

Key Performance Indicators

• Code Quality: Maintain low technical debt and high code clarity.
• Development Velocity: Deliver features efficiently while maintaining quality and performance standards.
• System Reliability: Ensure backend services and integrations maintain strong uptime and low latency.
• Collaboration: Actively contribute to reviews, discussions, and continuous improvement of engineering practices.

What We Offer

• Autonomy to drive and ship features end-to-end.
• Access to cutting-edge AI technologies and APIs.
• Flexible remote work across the U.S. and Europe.
Unlimited PTO, with approval from the CTO to maintain project alignment and team coordination. • Health insurance may be provided depending on individual needs and location.
• Company-provided work laptop (if needed).
• Collaborative, high-performance environment where your contributions directly shape the product.
We're looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced engineering environment and can balance speed, scalability, and maintainability with thoughtful, data-informed decision making.
