Why "Anyway" Matters Now

A World Values Day 2025 Valuesthon Event

In rupture we choose repair and it is the way forward.

Centering our core values as a means to repair the ruptures that we face.

Why Anyway Matters Now: Living the Paradox of Resilience and Repair

This marks our fifth World Values Day learning event. This year as in our previous years, we are excited to host a global dialogue circle, bringing together voices and perspectives from Hong Kong to Ukraine, from Brazil to Austria. Our WOH circle members are from Hong Kong, Canada, Austria, Ukraine, UK, USA, and Brazil.
You are warmly invited to join us in this shared conversation on October 18, 2025—and to continue engaging with us throughout the year in our ongoing sessions. Together, we’ll reflect, learn, and co-create across borders. Your presence and voice matter in this dialogue.
We are living in times marked by rupture. Uncertainty, chaos, distraction, and disruption touch every part of our lives. Systems fracture, trust erodes, and communities carry the heavy weight of exclusion and invisibility. And yet within every rupture lies the seed of repair. Repair is not about going back to what was; it is about moving forward into what might be created together.
The lens of anyway, drawn from the Paradoxical Commandments first written by Kent M. Keith in 1968, (and spoken about by Sister Theresa), becomes essential here. These commandments remind us that in the face of contradiction and resistance, possibility still exists. “Anyway” is the hinge between despair and determination, between fracture, repair and renewal.
For those of us engaged in social justice and community peacebuilding, this lens is more than resilience. It is about agency. To love anyway, build anyway, give anyway is to choose repair even when rupture feels overwhelming. It is to act not because the world guarantees recognition, but because dignity demands movement. So, as we gather to design our World Values Day session for October, let’s ask ourselves:
Why does this matter to me now? Where in my work, or in my life, do I most feel the weight of rupture, and the longing for repair? How do my core values create the repair of the ruptures that I face?
