The MES PTA voted to join CANSSPA (Central and North Seattle Schools PTA Alliance) as a donor school at the Winter General Meeting on February 25, 2025. The below vote will determine how we want our PTA to contribute to the coalition. This is an opportunity to demonstrate our community's commitment to supporting students across Seattle Public Schools.
What is CANSSPA? The Central & North Seattle Schools PTA Alliance (CANSSPA) is a network of volunteers who are collectively working toward equity for all students in the Seattle School District. CANSSPA consists of over 15 elementary and K-8 schools in SPS districts 1-5 (north of I-90). CANSSPA's mission is to advocate for all children to receive adequate and equitable education through a model of network building, resource sharing, and collective advocacy.
In the 2023–2024 school year, CANSSPA shared more than $15,000 to recipient schools. These funds helped meet needs such as classroom supplies, teacher training, student snacks, and families in need assistance. CANSSPA uses a funding formula that prioritizes schools with the highest numbers of students furthest from educational justice. This ensures the least-resourced schools receive the greatest share of support. Details of funding formula can be found here.

Why MES is Getting Involved This year, MES families raised approximately $90,000. These funds help support key staff and programs at our school. However, other schools have more limited fundraising capacity and are only able to raise a small fraction of this. These schools often serve higher percentages of low-income students and English language learners, and tend to have lower proficiency test scores. Comparative data can be found on OSPI.
By supporting CANSSPA, we are joining an effort to share resources more fairly and make a meaningful difference in the lives of students throughout our community.
