UCF Percussion Summer Institute

Application

June 21-27, 2026
The UCF Percussion Summer Institute offers a unique opportunity to study closely with UCF percussion faculty Thad Anderson, percussionist, composer, and contemporary-electroacoustic music specialist; Kirk Gay, world-class timpanist and orchestral musician; and Jeff Moore, internationally recognized percussion clinician, lecturer, and soloist. Additional guest artists and faculty will also be involved throughout the event.

The UCF Percussion Summer Institute is intended for advanced high school and college percussionists. Typically, participants are rising juniors or seniors in high school or college-age students. We recommend that participants are at least 15 years of age when they apply.

Please read below for additional details and to proceed with submitting an application.

Tuition and Housing Fees & Deadlines

Early application tuition:
$450 if you apply by April 1, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.
Late application tuition:
$550 if you apply between April 2 and May 15, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.
On-Campus Housing:
$280 for all six nights, checking in Sunday, June 21 and checking out on Saturday, June 27 Application Deadline:
All applications and materials must be received on May 15, 2026 by 11:59 p.m.

A 15% discount is available for a second child.
A 50% discount is available for incoming percussion majors.

Acceptance, Notification, & Payment

We will use a rolling admission process. Applicants who apply before April 1 will receive notification on or by April 8. Applicants who apply after April 1 will receive notification on or by May 22. Applications will close on May 15, 2026 or when the institute has reached capacity.

Once a participant has been admitted into the Percussion Summer Institute, a link to register and pay tuition and housing fees will be provided on or by May 22. Final registration and payment will need to be completed by June 5, 2026.

Application Guidelines

The application will include the following sections:
1. Participant Information: Please provide required contact and personal information to be included with your application.

2. Parent or Guardian Information: If the participant is a minor, please provide contact information for a parent or guardian. 3. Participant Housing Needs: Let us know if you will be needing on-campus housing during the length of the event. 4. Participant Background & Experience: In order for us to learn more about your experience level, the participant should provide the following:

Personal Statement: Provide a brief statement about your experience level, why you would like to attend, and what you would like to get out of the UCF Percussion Summer Institute.

Video Playing Demonstration: Please provide video of an informal playing demonstration in two instrument areas of your choosing (mallets, snare drum, timpani, drum set, hands drums, percussion ensemble, marching percussion, etc.). This can be a brief excerpt of solo or ensemble playing and should represent your current ability level.

Refund Policy

Requests for refunds of institute tuition must be submitted no later than 11 business days prior to camp start date. No refunds will be considered within two weeks prior to the start of the camp session. Transaction fees paid to PurplePass during registration are non-refundable, and a $50 processing fee is deducted from all refunds.
