We are seeking a proactive and passionate individual to collaborate with Horse-Up's founding team. In this remote role with adaptive hours, you'll work directly with the CTO to build the core of our new mobile application, a flagship product for the German and wider European market.
📱 tl;dr:
We're hiring a freelance Junior React Native/Expo developer to work directly with the CTO on our new mobile app for the equine industry. This is an evolving, remote role for a developer with 1-2 years of experience who can build quickly, write reusable code, and is ready to jump right in. Join us on a small scale to start and scale up your hours as we scale our product. We have a streamlined, no-fuss interview process.
👷🏽‍♀️ About the Role:
- Build Fast: Convert wireframes (Figma, paper or sketch) into abstracted, reusable, and performant components for our core Expo application (iOS and Android).
- Create Features: Implement and maintain new features, including a lot of form data and CRUD UI, AI-image processing, and LLM interactions.
- Write Reusable Code: Focus on building reusable components (like Higher-Order Components) to maintain a consistent design language and a clean, efficient project structure.
- Stay Secure: Implement and follow security best practices to ensure our code is always secure and compliant with EU data regulations for user data.
- Collaborate: Work closely with the CTO and other team members to deliver features at a fast pace. We believe in speed over perfection, and bugs are expected!
âś… Requirements:
- Experience Required: While you don’t need to be an expert in everything, you must have at least 1-2 years of experience developing mobile apps with React Native and Expo. You should have 2-3 applications that successfully build at least locally, and ideally, you have some code that you've written fully yourself (beyond basic tutorial-style projects).
- Bonus Skills: Experience with DevOps, monorepos, and the Apple Developer platform.
- Strong Technical Skills: Proficiency in React Native, Expo, GitHub, VSC (or other IDE), CLI, and some cloud provider.
- Excellent Communication: You must have strong spoken and written English (preferred) or German skills. This is essential for effective collaboration.
- Problem-Solver: You are able to identify and resolve complex technical challenges and enjoy finding robust and intelligent solutions.
- Adaptable: You are willing to learn and work with evolving requirements and technologies.
- Time Zone Alignment: You must be able to work remotely during our core hours of 11 AM to 3 PM CEST.
- Spam Buffer: You should mention the words expo nina in your subject line when you message me.
🧾 Collaboration Terms:
- Type: Freelance contract (at first), remote
- Scope: Mini job/part-time in the first months, possibility for role expansion in 2026
- Compensation: equivalent to a mini job role in Germany (550 €/month)
- Optional: Permanent position with increased salary (and equity options) after successful completion
