Fair Educational Assessment in the Age of AI (FAIR-ASSESS)

How can we make higher-education assessments more fair in the age of GenAI? Join us to impact Leiden University regulations on GenAI use.

We want to make sure that assessments – exams, papers, presentations – remain fair, or become more fair, now that students and teachers have access to GenAI technologies.
To this end, Leiden University's FAIR-ASSESS project organises a deliberative assembly to formulate rules for GenAI use in assessments. The assembly will gather 49 people - students and teachers - within our university (7 for each faculty).

A deliberative assembly?

A deliberative assembly brings together a group of people to engage with a complex topic. The group receives and exchanges information, critically examines the problem, and makes recommendations on how to deal with it. This way, policy decisions are informed by those who are affected by them.

This is the first deliberative assembly held at a university to discuss how fairness of assessments can be increased in the age of GenAI. The results of this deliberation will inform assessment policies at Leiden University and potentially beyond.

The programme will take place on four afternoons from mid-January to early February 2026.

When are the assembly meetings planned?

📅 Thursday 15th, 22nd, 29th of January and 12th of February
🕐 From 12:30 to 17:30 (lunch is included)
📍 The first three sessions will take place on the campus in The Hague, the last session will take place in Leiden
