C/COCA Director of Branding & Visual Design

Role Summary

As a a Director of Branding and Visual Design, you will shape the visual identity of C/COCA across digital and print platforms. You will design creative assets that support event promotion, recruitment, nonprofit partnerships, and internal initiatives while maintaining a cohesive and recognizable brand system. This role is ideal for students who enjoy visual storytelling, layout design, typography, and building strong brand systems within a growing organization.

Due to the nature of the organization as a student-led nonprofit, this is an unpaid leadership role. Applications are due by 03/10/2026 at 11:59 EST. Applicants must be Class of 2027 or later. Please note, preference will be given to applicants from institutions other than Ohio State University. Ohio State Students are still welcome to apply.

Who we are

C/COCA is a newly incorporated nonprofit design agency dedicated to providing free, accessible websites and digital solutions to nonprofits and charities. We bring together students across disciplines, and schools in Central Ohio to work on real client projects that emphasize usability, accessibility, and impact.

Alongside client work, we host professional development programming including portfolio reviews, resume workshops, and networking events with industry professionals ultimately helping students build skills, confidence, and career readiness.

You will help translate the agency’s mission into a cohesive visual system that strengthens recognition, credibility, and professionalism across all touchpoints.

You will gain hands-on experience designing for real campaigns, events, recruitment cycles, and cross-campus initiatives while building a portfolio that reflects brand strategy, marketing design, and nonprofit storytelling. This includes creating scalable design templates, refining typography and color systems, developing promotional assets for professional development programming, and contributing to launch materials as the organization grows.

As C/COCA partners with nonprofit clients and hosts public-facing events, your work will directly shape how external audiences perceive the agency. You will collaborate closely with the Executive Directors project team leads, Event and Programming Directors, and the Social Media & Marketing Directors to ensure visual consistency across digital platforms, event materials, and presentation decks.

Through this role, you will build experience in brand governance, campaign development, and creative direction within a real organizational structure. You will contribute directly to the long-term visual infrastructure of a regional nonprofit organization while developing professional-level design experience in a collaborative, cross-campus environment.

Responsibilities

Design promotional materials for events, recruitment cycles, nonprofit partnerships, and professional development programming.

Develop and maintain cohesive brand systems, including templates, typography hierarchies, color palettes, and layout guidelines.

Create graphics for social media, presentations, newsletters, digital campaigns, and internal communications.

Collaborate closely with the Social Media & Marketing team to ensure visual consistency across platforms and campaigns.

Contribute to branded materials such as digital flyers, slide decks, merchandise mockups, and large-scale campaign visuals.

Prepare print-ready and web-optimized files following industry standards.

Organize, version, and maintain design files within shared platforms such as Figma, Google Drive, and other collaborative tools.

Attend bi-monthly board meetings.

Dedicate approximately 3–5 hours per week to design execution, revisions, and team coordination.

Qualifications

Proficiency in industry-standard design tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign), Figma, or Affinity Designer.

Strong understanding of typography, color theory, composition, layout systems, and visual hierarchy.

Ability to design within established brand guidelines while contributing thoughtful refinements and improvements.

Experience preparing assets for both digital and print production.

Strong attention to detail, organization, and file management practices.

Ability to manage multiple design requests and meet deadlines in a collaborative, student-led environment.

Interest in branding, marketing design, and visual storytelling within a nonprofit or community-focused context.
