Four years ago, we started with an idea that people in Ottawa wanted better local news focused on the neighbourhoods and communities where locals live.
In the last year, we've done just that. Stories about Bells Corners, Carlington, Orléans, Kanata, the list goes on. People say local news is struggling, but our team of journalists has never been more excited about the future.
As we prepare for 2026, we're considering undertaking the biggest expansion in our publication's history. The plan? Set up truly local neighbourhood news bureaus, staffed by a local journalist, to rebuild neighbourhood journalism one community at a time.
Imagine a journalist running around Nepean, chasing down stories in Kanata, or exploring the future of housing in Orléans. Each area getting its own dedicated Lookout coverage, just like we have with our current newsletter.
But as a small publication, we have to plan carefully. Any expansion like this, without reader interest or support, could jeopardize our future.
So now we want to hear from you: is this something you want? Do you want a journalist dedicated to covering unreported stories in your community?
Take our short survey to help shape our goals for the future. We want to know theres's enough support to undertake this plan.
