Magical Creatures Sanctuary Volunteer Opportunities!

We’re looking for a wide variety of volunteers who genuinely care about animals, don’t mind getting their hands dirty, and are excited to be part of sanctuary life. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on animal care experience and off-grid living in a beautiful, peaceful setting.

This is a remote, rural lifestyle — not a nightlife or city scene. It’s best suited for people who want to unplug, connect with nature, and fully immerse themselves in caring for animals and living simply.

Weekly Volunteers

We are always looking for animal loving individuals to join our team!

For Weekly Animal Care shifts, please plan on spending approximately 2 hours at the sanctuary, on the same day and time each week. We ask you to commit to at least 3 months of volunteering. Be prepared for some semi heavy lifting, quite a bit of walking, and lots of animal snuggles during your shift. Some experience is preferred, but not a requirement, you will receive training when you get here, and you will be paired up with a more experienced volunteer in the beginning.

During rainy season, please come prepared with rubber boots and rain gear.

Minors under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian while volunteering.

Internship/Work Trade Opportunities

What You'll Be Doing
Feeding animals and making sure they always have fresh water Cleaning barns, pastures, and animal spaces
Spending time with the animals through enrichment, handling, and daily care Helping with specialized care like wound treatment, supplements, prosthetics, and laser therapy (we’ll train you) Assisting animals who use wheelchairs, braces, or other mobility support Making simple enrichment toys and treats for the animals

What We’re Looking For

Must be 18+, (If under 18, must be accompanied by a parent or guardian) Valid U.S. driver’s license is a big plus Able to lift up to 50 lbs Comfortable working outdoors in different weather conditions Motivated, dependable, and able to work independently or with a team Respectful toward animals and aligned with sanctuary values Animal or farm experience is helpful, but not required

Onsite Animal Sanctuary Manager Opportunity

Onsite Animal Sanctuary Manager

The Onsite Animal Sanctuary Manager is an unpaid volunteer leadership role supporting the day-to-day operation of the sanctuary. This role is designed for an experienced volunteer who enjoys animal care, organization, problem-solving, and helping other volunteers.

Volunteer Managers may assist with:

Coordinating daily volunteer activities and animal-care tasks. Training and supporting volunteers and interns. Monitoring animal health and communicating concerns to leadership or veterinary professionals. Helping maintain animal-care records, supplies, facilities, and equipment. Supporting tours, educational activities, and sanctuary programs. Assisting with emergencies and communicating significant safety or operational concerns. Helping maintain a safe, organized, and respectful volunteer environment.

Volunteer Participation

Managers are generally encouraged to contribute approximately 2½–3½ days per week, depending on their availability and the needs of the sanctuary. A commitment of approximately six months or longer is strongly encouraged to support continuity.

Housing & Volunteer Support

Designated private or shared onsite housing may be provided to support participation in the volunteer program. Utilities, internet, and staple foods may also be provided. Limited use of a shared sanctuary vehicle and reimbursement of approved sanctuary-related expenses may be available under sanctuary policy. These resources are provided to facilitate the volunteer experience.

Qualifications

Experience with farmed animals, sanctuaries, veterinary care, or comparable animal-care settings. Ability to recognize and communicate animal-health concerns. Strong communication, organization, judgment, and problem-solving skills. Ability to respectfully guide and support other volunteers. Commitment to humane animal care and sanctuary policies. Valid driver's license if vehicle use is required.Veterinary, animal-health, sanctuary leadership, maintenance, first aid, or CPR experience is a plus.

Physical Environment

Volunteer activities may involve outdoor work, uneven terrain, large animals, animal waste, dust, insects, cleaning supplies, and changing weather conditions. Volunteers should only participate in activities appropriate for their training and physical abilities.
