Oxum Glycosciences - Lab Technician

We are a fast-growing, early-stage biotechnology startup leveraging proprietary glycan sequencing technology to innovate the cancer diagnostics space. As we scale our operations, we are looking for a detail-oriented, proactive Part-Time Lab Technician to support our research facility. Working alongside our Staff Scientist and research interns, you will play a crucial role in keeping our daily lab operations running seamlessly while assisting with critical validation experiments

Compensation: $20-$25/hr, depending on experience

Location: Chicago, IL  (On-site)

Position Type: Part-Time (approx. 15-20 hours/week)

Key Responsibilities

Experimental Support: Assist the Staff Scientist with diagnostic validation, assay optimization, and sample preparation, ensuring rigorous data collection and documentation.

Lab Operations & Inventory: Monitor and maintain chemical and reagent inventories, log incoming shipments, prepare standard buffers/reagents, and ensure the workspace is organized.

Equipment Care: Assist in routine equipment calibration, log preventive maintenance, and help troubleshoot minor instrumentation issues to minimize downtime.

Safety & Compliance: Help enforce industry-standard laboratory safety protocols, waste disposal regulations, and chemical logs.

Team Collaboration: Assist in onboarding and tracking daily tasks for research interns, fostering a collaborative, highly efficient lab environment.

Qualifications

Education: Currently pursuing or holding a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or a related life sciences discipline.

Experience: 1+ years of hands-on laboratory experience (advanced university lab coursework or industry experience). Direct experience with standard molecular biology techniques (pipetting, assay prep, data logging) is required.

Skills: Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and familiarity with laboratory safety and inventory management.
