Japan A.I.R

“Art is my life and my life is art.”
— Yoko Ono

The Time Within Time Residency is a traveling A.I.R (Artist in Residency) program that takes place in a different location with each edition. In September 2027, the residency arrives in Japan — a place where tradition and contemporary life, stillness and movement, nature and the urban landscape exist side by side. For one week, Japan will become a space for artistic exploration, encounter, and creation.

The residency is open to international artists working across all disciplines and artistic practices.

This one-week residency is an invitation to experience Japan through intuition, spontaneity, movement, encounter, and presence. Each day, participating artists will move through different places in Japan — observing their surroundings, absorbing the atmosphere, discovering the local artistic landscape, and allowing the experience of the place itself to shape the creative process.

The residency encourages artists to work freely, without fixed expectations, allowing intuition and immediacy to guide the process. Through conversations, encounters with local art and culture, and the connections formed between participating artists, the residency becomes a temporary space of exchange, experimentation, and creation.

At the end of the residency, a final group exhibition will take place in a gallery space in Japan. Participating artists are invited to present works developed during the residency as well as previous works. Artists are encouraged to approach the exhibition freely and to work with any medium, material, idea, or form that reflects their creative direction. The exhibition will include a shared opening event and forms an essential part of the residency experience.

The residency and exhibition will be documented by Time Within Time Gallery, and participation also opens the possibility for future collaborations with the gallery and its ongoing international projects.
