1️⃣ Hopeful Monsters - an improvisation workshop by Katya Kaliuzhnaia dedicated to the movements we usually don't allow ourselves to make. The expressive potential of "wrong" movement, embracing the body beyond perfection, cultivating the strange, the awkward, and the alive, discovering the expressive power of your "monstrous" body.

* at Spectrum, we believe that price tags are also a spectrum 😎 we need money to sustain and support quality ideas and initiatives - but we also do not close our doors for those who lack what we claim at the moment. We believe in giving opportunities to people that develop and enrich our community; to those, who seek these transformations in life; to those, who know why they need it, but can not afford it right now. MORE ABOUT MONSTERS / KATYA'S ARTIST STATEMENT:

" Every body holds movements that rarely get the chance to emerge - especially in front of others. Too strange. Too abrupt. Too quiet. Not virtuosic enough. Not fluid enough. Not technical enough. Not beautiful enough.

In this workshop, we will make space for exactly those movements.

We will improvise, cultivate our “mistakes,” and take our expressivity - and our own monstrosity - out for a walk.

I am interested in the body not as an object to perfect, but as a source of the unexpected and the expressive. Sometimes what seems wrong or improper turns out to be the most alive, the most compelling, and the most inspiring.

The workshop is open to everyone, regardless of previous experience".

She approaches choreography as a way of organising relations between bodies,

people and social imaginaries. Her work explores somatic practices, dance,

improvisation, the interaction of movement, voice and space.

Her artistic practice focuses on reconnecting with bodily memory, nature and

traditional culture as a means of processing the contemporary eco-social crisis. She

works across performance, research and collaborative artistic formats.

She has performed internationally, including in Germany (Dock 11, No fears gallery,

Frankfurt LAB, Landungsbrücken), France (Le Doc en Scène), Switzerland (Antigel

Festival), the Netherlands (Kaapstad Festival), as well as in various venues in

Russia.

In addition to her performance work, she develops interdisciplinary projects

combining choreography, voice and research. Her project Voice of the River, created

in collaboration with Outi Rossi and Max Sergeev, was broadcast by YLE (Finland).
