Maternal Care Clinical Practice Experiences

Practitioner Consent & Study Details

You are invited to participate in a research study exploring healthcare workers’ (doctors, nurses, midwives, or clinical associates) experiences managing maternal patients in the South African context.

This research is being conducted as part of a digital health fellowship project led by Dr Demira Padayachee, aimed at understanding current clinical workflows, challenges, and decision-making processes in maternal care. Insights from this study may inform future innovations to support healthcare delivery.

Participation will involve either:

1) completing a short questionnaire (approximately 15 minutes), or

2) taking part in a one-to-one research discussion (booked via link on the next page)

Your participation is voluntary.

Data To Be Collected

You will be asked questions about your clinical experiences, workflows, and challenges encountered while managing obstetric or maternal patients.

If participating in an interview the session may be audio-recorded for accuracy, and notes will be taken to capture key insights.

You will not be asked to disclose identifiable patient information. Please avoid sharing patient names or identifying details during responses.

You are under no obligation to answer any question you are uncomfortable with and may skip questions at any time


Confidentiality and Data Protection

Data Storage and Security

All data will be stored securely and access will be restricted to the researcher only. Appropriate security measures will be used to prevent unauthorised access, disclosure, or loss of information.

Data Use

Your responses will be treated confidentially. Information collected will be:
– analysed to identify common themes and system challenges,
– anonymised and combined with responses from other participants, and
– used in research outputs, fellowship reports, or academic presentations.
No personally identifying information will be included in any published or shared material. Your data will not be shared with third parties without your consent.

Data Retention

Data will be retained only for as long as necessary for research purposes and will thereafter be securely deleted or anonymised.

Your Rights

Participation is voluntary. You may decline to participate, skip any question, or withdraw from the study at any time without consequence.

If you withdraw, any data collected from you will be removed. If you have questions about the study or wish to withdraw your data, please contact the researcher:
