Future Buff collective is looking for YOUR illustrations and comics for Volume 1!

You can apply for both, but you will only be accepted for 1 role.Do email us if you have any questions about the application itself.
Do not email us to ask if we received your form please. For your records, feel free to screenshot the confirmation page you are redirected to after completion. If you are REALLY unsure, feel free to submit a second time- we will only review the later application since we are a team of 2. All applicants will receive an email with results either way at the end of our review period.
This will be a zine for original art, fiction and comics featuring masc x masc
sapphic relationships.
If accepted, there will be a creation period from roughly November 2026 to March 2027- with staggered due dates depending on length. We are not looking for already started, finished or published works.
We encourage both SFW and NSFW contributions. Due to the nature of the content to be featured in this zine, we are only able to work with and sell to adults over the age of 18.
Contributors will retain complete rights to their work. We ask for an exclusivity period of creation time until 1 month after all zines have shipped. Contributors will also be asked to post some WIP-style post on their social media for promotion- more info upon acceptance.
We will host a discord for ease-of-access to us, the mods, and to encourage discussion and sharing previews to fellow contributors. We will not require the discord to participate, however, failure to communicate at scheduled check-in times may result in removal from the zine.
We're looking for romance stories and illustrations that are charming, funny, heart-wrenching, and may or may not feature the silly taken seriously. If it's the kind of concept you'd find scrolling the depths of your favorite fanfiction archive or while reading the title of the newest isekai light novel to gain popularity, that's what we want. We are open to any genre from historical to futuristic, set on our world or anywhere in the galaxy, or on a secondary world entirely.
Give us your illustrations that tell a story at a glance, that consider details as character building; heated glances, the moment they snap, competitions taken to the furthest point, vibrant colors, experimental compositions, a scene from the movie you made up for them.
We are especially interested in:
• unusual rivalry circumstances (ex. fashion designers, forum mod/poster who keeps skirting rules)
• genre mash-ups (space opera but they're spies)
• trope subversions (ex. rivalry ignited by misunderstanding, one person doesn't know they're in a rivalry)
• stories featuring non-US American/non-western characters and settings
Hard sells :
• sports rivalry
• cozy scifi, fantasy, mystery or horror (the non-cozy equivalent of each of these are not hard sells for us)
• omegaverse
Not interested in:
• nonfiction
• depictions of sexual assault, depictions of sex involving characters under 18, bestiality, or incest
• generative ai (in any aspect of creation)
• works that promote racism, misogyny, transphobia, and homophobia

What would you like to contribute to the zine? You can select as many as apply, however you will only be selected for 1 role. Invited contributors who complete their pieces sooner may be able to opt-in for a second piece, space allowing.

If you do not have a public portfolio, you can use a drive link- but you must ensure that we can view it (you can use a private browser window to test this). We will not contact you to gain permissions. For drive links, please include 8-15 pieces. NSFW and fandom works are perfectly fine to include, though we encourage you to include original pieces as well.
We are looking for work exemplary of the general type of contribution you'd like to make. Exception to this is merch artists, if your portfolio showcases an eye for design that's enough for us.

Tell us what you'd like to make for the zine! If you selected several items in question 1, please provide 2 pitches for each type.
For merch- please tell us what kind of merch you'd be most interested in making. We're largely only looking for flat paper products- stickers, prints, bookmarks etc. That said, if you have a creative idea within that range, definitely let us know!
Cover artist- please note that this role will entail working much closer with the mod team throughout the process. The cover will need to be SFW (open to suggestive) so we can advertise and sell the zine (thanks censorship!).
Comics- One shots only. Looking for 2 to 12ish pages, so include a general range you'd like to make. We can be a flexible for the right idea.
They can be as detailed or vague as you'd like, but we are not looking for sketches at this time- just a general vibe of what you might like to make! We will have a preference of pitch, but you are not 100% locked in to these should you be accepted and have a new idea at that time.
Are you interested in potentially participating as a pinch-hitter if we're unable to offer a slot in the initial contributors lineup? This is completely optional and will not affect your application in any way.

Selected contributors will be compensated in the form of 1 copy of the zine and 1 copy of each item of merch, regardless of sales. Should sales also cover shipping or a portion of shipping for these items, we will provide that as well- but anything beyond that will be donated to the cause we decide on as a group. Contributors will also be able to purchase additional copies at cost for commercial or personal purposes.
