National Museum and Cultural Institution Energy Survey

Introduction

This survey is intended to gather data and information that will be submitted to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for potential analysis and development of a 1-100 ENERGY STAR Score for museums and other cultural institutions. Developing an ENERGY STAR Score for the cultural sector will empower this vital sector to quickly and easily understand how their buildings are performing and take the first step to making improvements that can reduce carbon emissions and save on energy bills.
Please note that this is an independent effort by New Buildings Institute (NBI) and Environment & Culture Partners (ECP). The EPA has not provided a commitment to develop a score, nor can it guarantee the ability to do so if provided with survey data.

Important Notes

This survey asks for 2025 calendar year energy-use data for all fuels (e.g., annual total for electricity, natural gas, fuel oil, etc.), along with property and operational data. The survey may include information or data you have already submitted or shared from ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, but please respond to all questions – a complete and accurate set of answers is critical to developing scores and rating individual property submissions.
You will have the option to save your results and continue later if you are not able to answer all questions in one sitting, but please make sure to come back and finish later - a complete survey is required to be a part of this effort.
Technical assistance is available to aid you in completing the survey, please reach out to ECP at hello@ecprs.org if you have any questions.
