Create-a-thon '26: Mentor EOIs

Thank you so much for your interest in becoming a mentor! We really appreciate your willingness to share your time and knowledge with passionate girls! This Expression of Interest will help us learn more about your background so that we can organise the event.

On the weekend of the 18th-19th July, from 10am-5pm each day, we will be running the Genesia Girls Create-a-thon: Sustainability at the University of Canterbury, Rehua 102. During this event, participants will work in teams and, with the support of mentors like you, develop and pitch a digital outcome based on a prompt, with a focus on Sustainability and Creative Technology. Examples of potential outcomes include but are not limited to a 3D model, an animation, a game, or a website; these can be ideas/designs, or physical outcomes.

Having mentors will not only help the participants as they work towards their final outcome, but it's also incredibly inspiring for these young women to be able to meet and learn from women in the technology and sustainability industry! We'd love your help empowering young women and girls in Christchurch to unite through their technology/sustainability journey. Roles:

Team mentors - Each team will be paired with a mentor who will work closely with a team of 5 girls throughout the weekend. As a consistent point of contact, team mentors build an understanding of their team's goals, progress, and challenges, providing ongoing guidance, feedback, encouragement, and accountability from the initial idea through to the final presentation.

Floating mentors - Floating mentors are not assigned to a specific team. Instead, they move around throughout the event, offering advice and fresh perspectives wherever they are needed. This could include helping teams brainstorm solutions, providing technical or industry expertise, giving feedback on ideas or prototypes, or assisting teams that have reached a roadblock.

Judge - Judges will evaluate team projects at the end of the Create-a-thon and help select award winners. This could include listening to team presentations, asking questions, assessing projects against the judging criteria, and providing constructive feedback to participants.

Team mentors will need to be available for the full weekend. If you are still interested in mentoring but will not be available for the full weekend, you can come in as a floating mentor. Judges will need to be available from 2-5pm on 19th of July.
