There are broadly five types of Shedunnit episode:

1. Thematic episodes, in which Caroline looks at a theme across lots of different books (eg. In the Dentist's Chair)
2. Biographical episodes, in which Caroline explores the life and/or work of one writer (eg. Edmund Crispin's Inside Jokes)
3. Historical episodes, in which Caroline looks at a specific crime or event (eg. The Red Barn Murder)
4. Green Penguin Book Club episodes, in which Caroline and a guest discuss a title from the Penguin crime series (eg. Raffles)
5. Personal reading focused episodes (eg. Whodunnit Centenary: 1925)
