About Abacum

Abacum is the leading Business Planning solution for finance teams to drive performance. By automating reporting, enabling collaboration, and simplifying planning and forecasting, we help finance teams shift from number crunching to driving strategic decisions.

Founded in 2020 by two former CFOs, we’ve grown into a global team of 100+ people across 30+ nationalities. Headquartered in New York, we have offices in London and Barcelona. We’re trusted by industry leaders such as Dish Networks, Strava, BetterUp, Kajabi, JG Wentworth, Abridge, Cortex, and hundreds more.

We have raised over $100m, closing in June 2025 our  $60M Series B, led by Scale Venture Partners, with the strong participation of Cathay Innovation, Y Combinator, Atomico, Creandum, and angel operators from Adyen, Zapier, and Twitch.

Our mission is ambitious and we can’t do it alone - join Abacum as we build the future of Business Planning!

The Opportunity
Design at Abacum shapes how modern finance teams think, plan, and act. We’re looking for a Director of Design who thrives in complexity and can scale both systems and people.
This is a unique opportunity: you’ll take over from our current Director, who laid the foundation and is transitioning out after scaling the team and design practice. You’ll inherit a strong group of senior product designers and guide design through its next stage of evolution — from solid foundations to operational excellence, strategic influence, and brand expression.
You’ll report directly to the founder and collaborate closely with product, engineering, and marketing leadership.
What You'll Do
Design Operations & Systems
- Establish and continuously improve design processes, rituals, tools, and documentation
- Maintain and evolve our Figma component library to support speed and cohesion
- Champion the development of a scalable design system that reinforces UX consistency and accelerates delivery
- Ensure quality through effective critique practices, heuristics, and shared design principles
Product Strategy & Vision
- Partner with product and engineering leadership to shape roadmap priorities and long-term direction
- Create vision prototypes that align teams and surface new opportunities
- Provide framing and feedback throughout the design process — from discovery to delivery
- Identify system-level improvements across initiatives and drive scalable solutions
Advocacy & Influence
- Represent the design team in cross-functional and company-wide forums
- Champion user-centered and inclusive design thinking
- Advocate for design’s role in building trust, clarity, and confidence in a complex product space
What You'll Bring
- 10+ years of experience in Product Design, including 5+ years in a leadership role
- Proven ability to lead senior ICs, build strong teams, and grow people
- A portfolio that shows recent hands-on design contributions — from conceptual thinking to polished execution
- Experience shipping complex SaaS products, ideally in B2B environments
- Strategic thinking and strong product intuition — you’ve influenced roadmaps, not just screens
- Proven collaboration skills across product, engineering, and executive leadership
- Comfort with ambiguity and a passion for simplifying the complex
- Bonus: experience in financial tooling, planning, or data-heavy domains
Our Benefits
- Competitive compensation and generous equity package
- Competitive vacation policy
- Private health insurance and access to Meditopia
- Hybrid work culture and flexible working hours
- Personal development including language courses
- Relocation support if needed and desired
Our Values
- Customer Obsession: We share the understanding that Abacum's sole purpose is to create value for customers and relentlessly deploy all creativity and energy to that end.
- Audacious Ambition: We dream big and embrace discomfort. We assume risks, make on-time mistakes and learn how to methodically accomplish our goals.
- Good People: We are self-reflective and praise diversity of thought. We don't justify the end with the means and know where to draw the line. We have fun every day.
- Tough Love: We truly care for everyone in the team and embrace honest feedback and radical transparency as ways to genuinely help each other.
