Side Stage Ventures is a founder-led seed fund that backs the next generation of outlier founders in Australia. We are focused on building a world-class fund that empowers outlier founders and provides them with the support and capital they need to build exceptional businesses.

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated and versatile Chief of Staff to join our team in Sydney. This is a key operational role that will be crucial in supporting the investment team, managing our community, and ensuring smooth operations across our deals and stakeholders.

You will be a vital member of the founding team of Side Stage Ventures. Most importantly, you will be flexible, adaptable, committed and have a ‘can do’ attitude.


This includes but is not limited to:
Deal & Portfolio Operations
> Drive the deal closing process including supporting legal and commercial diligence for new investments
> Collaborate closely with our fund compliance and administration teams to ensure we maintain strong governance
> Help ensure we provide our LP's, founders and partners with the level of service and care they deserve
> Oversee the operations of our founder innovation hub
LP & Founder Engagement
> Assist in preparing investor updates and communications
> Coordinate founder support initiatives and resources

About You

> You might have a background in legal or finance (or as a founder) but are seeking to leverage your skills more creatively
> You are passionate about supporting and investing in early stage companies
> You care deeply about founders and can share examples about when you’ve helped them succeed
> You’re a digital and AI native and comfortable building systems that make us more effective
> You have exceptional organisational skills, tonnes of energy and enjoy working in small teams
> You GSD. Like to move fast and have a high attention to detail.

We always remember that we back founders. It is their business and we are part of the support team. We behave like founders - with passion, enthusiasm and belief - and we know that what is best for founders is best for us.

We do the right thing even when no-one is looking. We build conviction and then have 100% trust in our team and our founders and we expect the same in return. We are a team, not just a collection of individuals. We take responsibility & share the wins and the mistakes together.

We create safe spaces for our founders, teammates and LP’s. We thrive on debate, we challenge our team and our founders directly and with honesty, but always caring deeply. No question is a stupid question and vigorous debate and disagreement is encouraged.

We believe that entrepreneurship is a force for good in the world. We back entrepreneurs who are changing the world - for the better. This might be through the core problem they are solving (such as Climate change or Health) but could equally be in the way they build and hire people or create opportunities for others.

Venture is a long game. We play long term games with long term people. We plan to be here for decades and we want to work with and invest in people who will be here too. We recognise the trust that our founders & LP’s place in us as long term partners and we don’t take this responsibility lightly.

7. Crazy ideas change the world
Many of the world’s most impactful ideas sounded crazy at first. It’s so easy to attack new ideas and be right. The hard thing is to challenge, support, nurture and stake our reputations on new ideas.
