FAQ

What is Under the Leaf Art Book Fair?

Under the Leaf is an art book fair in Helsinki hosting local and international exhibitors featuring a wide variety of publishing practices —from zines to artists’ books, experimental publications and contemporary art editions. The location changes yearly.

What is the 4th edition of the fair consisting of?

We’re thrilled to present this year’s edition in collaboration with the University of the Arts, which will allow for new kinds of exploration and connection throughout the artist publishing community, and a more diverse and international fair experience. The entrance to the festival and fair is free.

The programme consists of talks and performances by international guests and collectives invited to the fair as influential actors of the field. In addition, live music, poetry readings, food art and more! The full programme will be announced in 2026.

The event is organized by Hikari Nishida (The Temporary Bookshelf) and Sara Blosseville (Fétiche Editions). This event is supported by the Kone Foundation.

You can see images of the previous editions on our Instagram page.

What are you registering for?

A table spot (around 80 x 80cm in size) to sell or present books, zines and other publications on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th of June 2026; from 12 to 17 in the premises of the University of the Arts, TeaK Tori space (Helsinki). Please note that one spot fits maximum 2 chairs.

Who are we looking for?

The fair is primarily meant for artists and artist collectives. We strive to host an inclusive event where people of diverse genders, backgrounds, cultures, experiences, and identities are represented and feel safe to share their creativity.

What kind of publications?

We will prioritise applications from applicants who will present more than a single title, and are actively publishing new works and are taking experimental initiatives in their practices. Printed matters (e.g. posters, cassettes, clothes, stickers...) are welcome in addition to publications. The event is primarily meant for presenting publications.

Under the Leaf is a fair to present publishing practices as an artistic form: artist books, zines, and experimental in-between. We are looking for affordable publications that showcase the book as a multiple, rather than unique artist book. We will also prioritise and support the grass-root initiatives instead of the institutionalised.

The book fair team follows safer space principles. The principles are applied in every part of the process to ensure that everyone can feel safe, welcome, and respected.

How much is the fee to participate?

The participation fee is between 0-40€. During the fair all sales are directly dealt between the seller and the buyer, there is no fee taken by the book fair.
