Journalism is hard. But we do it because it's important.
That doesn't mean we should be exploited.
At The Continent and The Friday Paper, our team works flat out to pay people fairly and fast. Most invoices are paid in a week. Which is hard when you're paying across borders to dozens of different countries. In the last year we paid over $100,000 to freelance reporters, photographers, illustrators and storytellers.
We can always improve. Without journalists there is no journalism.
To improve, we need your help. Please share some anonymous details about where you are and how you are paid for your work. This should take four minutes.
We're doing the survey through Tally to ensure there is no way to track you.
We'll then share the overall findings to help us all know a bit more about our sector. That will help freelancers ask for fair pay, and help newsrooms know what they should be paying. It's also just interesting and us journalist types like interesting things.
Thank you.
