We are seeking stories about promoting and advancing fairness within the arts community. If you are a professional working in any artistic discipline, anywhere in the world, and have meaningful experience related to fair practice, we would love to learn from you!
We are currently conducting a research project on fair practices in the arts. The research will dive deep into a selection of particularly fascinating, effective, innovative or context-specific practices that promote fair relationships in the cultural sector and directly benefit artists and cultural workers. This research primarily focuses on how we treat one another within the arts community, rather than how we are treated by funders and policymakers – though there are certainly connections between the two.
As a result of the research, you will get an insight into what fairness means in different contexts, how cutting-edge and effective practices came about, and what works and what doesn't.
What do we mean by fair practice, and does it carry the same meaning across different parts of the world? How can we ensure that symbolic commitments – whether in the form of strategy papers or shifts in vocabulary – lead to real and lasting change? What obstacles do we face when trying to put fairness into practice, and how can we overcome them? We look forward to hearing your stories - about both successes and failures!
