Ochre

Introduction

As Makers we need to be able to connect with our audience, let them see the things we have created, and for it to be simple to make a purchase. Ochre is about bringing these things together in a way that is affordable and feels part of the community that we inhabit in the real world.
The aim is to create a platform that allows us as Makers, to have their own individual website in the name of our choosing. Something that is as simple to tailor as a social media page and provides an online shop for us to sell through. A platform that is free to use with the only charge being a small percentage fee when a sale is made.
By coming together as many Makers sharing a platform, Ochre will be able to help bring a new audience to our work just as being part of an exhibition, gallery, shop or fair does.

Name

Ochre is one of the oldest pigments we have used as humans to illustrate and to decorate. Its use spans a multitude of craft and art, holding the same rich connection to the earth now as it has for thousands of years. A colour in our palette to bring warmth to whatever we create. Ochre is for all Makers. The artist, wood, ceramic, glass and textile workers, those that sculpt and model, design, draw, carve and weave, reuse and rebuild, and create in every imaginable way. The name Ochre has been chosen as something that could be part of the world of almost every Maker, shared by all. As the platform becomes ready to use Ochre will have its own identity.

Development

The technical development of Ochre is underway. There are a number of stages to go through to enable the functions and facilities that the platform requires to operate. These are in the process of being brought together. The aim is to begin bringing the first users and consequently websites online in Spring / Summer 2025. The concept work and technical development for Ochre is being done in the Forest of Dean in the UK.

Register An Interest

Makers are invited to register an interest in becoming users of Ochre.
