For each person the recruitment agency recommends and is hired by that company they partnered with, the agency receives a 20-40% commission of that person's first year salary. So if a recruitment agency successfully places a software engineer to a $200k/year role, they will make roughly $60k from the company (yea these agencies make lots of money lol).
