Design Project Lead (s) Volunteer

Hours4-8 hours/week in addition to the mandatory check-in meetings with designated supervisor 

Compensation: This is an unpaid volunteer position, but eligible post-secondary students may qualify for a Riipen stipend. 

Volunteer Term: November 4, 2024 - June 30th, 2024

Location: Edmonton

Reporting to: The Green Room Co-Lead: Programs & Social Media

Your Purpose

We are seeking 2-3 creative and culturally aware individuals that identify as a Muslim and/or Indigenous person to lead the design and creation of a mural tapestry that celebrates Indigenous and Islamic cultures. The ideal candidate will be passionate about community-centred projects and have experience in design and cultural consultation.

Your Role

Design and source materials for a mural tapestry that reflects the rich traditions of Indigenous and Islamic cultures. Collaborate closely with local community members and cultural consultants to ensure the tapestry authentically represents the shared heritage. Work with other project stakeholders to integrate diverse perspectives and feedback into the design process. Manage the overall execution of the tapestry project, from initial concept to final installation.

Qualifications

- Experience in design, particularly in projects involving cultural elements.
- Strong understanding and appreciation of Indigenous and Islamic cultures.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience consulting with diverse communities.
- Ability to source materials and manage a creative project from start to finish
- Must maintain the legal right to work in Canada
