Peer Supporter for AWCS Member Discussion Groups

AWCS is organizing discussion groups, inviting members to share what kinds of support they need to build their craft and to be in community. This project allows us to understand how we can best support our members. In addition to focused discussions, the sessions will include guided creative and playful activities.

These sessions will be community-centred, encouraging open conversations rather than formal interviews. We are running online and in person sessions across Alberta.

We are looking for volunteers who can assist in this project as Peer Supporters.

Peer Supporters must be members who:

- are willing to share their creative journey and their experiences being in the AWCS community

- can offer advice and answer questions attendees may have about writing and building connections

- can gather information from focus groups, according to guidelines provided beforehand at orientation

- enjoy working in a group setting, with fellow Peer Supporters, the Project Lead, and the Arts Facilitator.

- can commit to attending the Peer Supporter orientation that will be 1.5 hours long, on zoom

- can commit to being a Peer Supporter during at least one session that will run 2.5 hours long, online and/or in person

We encourage applications from members from all backgrounds and communities of diverse gender, race, and abilities.

As with all AWCS Volunteers, Peer Supporters will receive a 25% discount off any AWCS classes or events for the year.

If you have any questions about being a participant or volunteer, contact Precious at pdeleon@alexandrawriters.org.
