System design
- Architecture end to end: sensor suite, compute, time synchronization, and the fusion pipeline from raw sonar and camera data to relative pose with uncertainty.
- Acoustic sensing: detection, ranging, bearing estimation, and tracking from hull-mounted arrays and active transceivers amid multipath, reverberation, and platform noise.
- Underwater vision for close-range alignment and docking under changing visibility, lighting, and relative motion.
- Calibration, sensor modeling, and the error budget across the full approach envelope.
Integration and proof
- The acoustic-to-optical handoff for rendezvous and terminal docking, including confidence thresholds and behavior on target loss or sensor dropout.
- Optical and/or acoustic communications alongside sensing: link budget, timing, and keeping comms from interfering with the acoustic channel.
- Test the stack in the lab and in the field.
You Should Have
- Deep expertise in underwater acoustic sensing, including hands-on processing of data from hull-mounted sonar arrays and active sonar transceivers.
- Underwater computer vision developed and validated on real underwater data.
- Strong fundamentals in sensor fusion and state estimation; practical C++ and Python.
-Full-cycle ownership of a robotics sensing system through bring-up, calibration, and in-water testing; strong field instincts.
- Willingness to travel for sea trials.
