Assata Shakur Brigade - August Brigade application

Welcome to the application form for the Assata Shakur Brigade's August delegation to Cuba. Thank you for your interest in coming to Cuba with us!
The brigade dates are the 6th August - 15th August. The programme consists of a unique 4-day conference about the life and legacy of Fidel Castro, working on cooperative farms, visits to museums, and visits to healthcare and educational institutions to transfer critical supplies. The Brigade is a solidarity trip, not a holiday, and as a participant in a serious political programme, and guest of the Cuban state, you will expected to behave accordingly and participate in all activities. You will receive the full programme upon acceptance. For any programme enquiries, email us at assatashakurbrigade@gmail.com.
The total cost for the brigade is £995. This is inclusive of all accomodation, food, transport, guides, and activities in Cuba, a Brigade tshirt, and visas. It does not include flights (we will share recomended options and price guides). Within this cost, you must pay a deposit of £95 when you are confirmed, and the remaining amount of £900 by July 22nd.
This application process is designed to screen applicants based on their commitment to the principles of the Cuban Revolution, anti-imperialism, and socialism. The Brigade's purpose is to contribute to and enact material solidarity with the Cuban struggle. This application also screens applicants' commitment to and embodiment of values of liberation and anti-oppression, such as queer, Black, and women's liberation. The Brigade is a liberatory space whose members are required to uphold rules of disicpline, comradely norms, and minimum points of political unity.
If you are successful in your application you will be invited to a group interview to confirm your place, the dates for which are within the form. The final step will be to read and accept the Points of Unity and Comradely Norms documents, which will be shared upon interview completion.
As part of your participation in the Brigade you will be required to bring one suitcase (23kg+) of supplies that we will deliver to Cuban institutions as part of our solidarity efforts. We will undertake collective procurement for supplies, funded by centralised donations which the Brigade is organising, but you will be responsible for the cost of the luggage allowance within your flight cost, and your suitacse, which will be left as part of the donation. We will engage in fundraising, political education about Cuba, and collective preperation which you will be expected to take part in.
There will be an interest meeting on Friday the 12th of June at 7pm if you would like to go through any questions in more depth: email assatashakurbrigade@gmail.com if you would like to attend this.
Please complete everything accurately. Some of this information will be used for visas and travel documents so make sure it corresponds to your passport information. If you input anything incorrectly your visa may be invalid.
The deadline for completing this form is July 19th.
If you have any questions, please email assatashakurbrigade@gmail.com
