DALA (translated from Qazaq as steppe) is a personal and political documentary by Almira Saifullina (Qazaqstan) that asks how histories of Soviet totalitarianism continue to shape landscape, memory, and social life in Central Qazaqstan. Through archival research, contemporary fieldwork, and autoethnographic inquiry, the film approaches cinema not only as a narrative form, but as a method of knowledge production and a space of political questioning.
