Thank you for your interest in running for a position on the 2026/2027 COEO Board of Directors. COEO's volunteer board is elected every fall at our Annual Meeting (held the Sunday morning of the annual fall conference). Once you complete this form, our Nominations Committee will add your name to the slate of candidates for the upcoming year's board. The slate of candidates will be emailed out to the membership and posted on the website ahead of the Annual Meeting.
This form will close on
August 23, 2026 so that the slate of candidates can be shared with the membership 30 days before the Annual Meeting (as is mandated by our constitution). Nominations are also accepted from the floor during the Annual Meeting even if they missed the deadline for being included in the slate of candidates. Voting will be held in person at the Annual Meeting on Sunday September 27th at our annual fall conference at Camp Muskoka.
The positions on our voting board members are:
* President (1 position)
* Vice President (1 position)
* Secretary (1 position)
* Treasurer (1 position)
* Volunteer Co-ordinator (1 position)
* Board Member at Large (4 positions)
Board members hold their positions for one year. After one year, board members can put their name forward for re-election again. Board members cannot hold the same position for more than 3 years. For the 2026/2027 year, some board members are running for re-election.
Time Commitment:
The board has two full day in-person meetings a year in addition to a monthly zoom meetings (usually about 2 hours). Board members can expect to spend at least 5-10 hours a month on COEO related tasks. Depending on the role and the time of year, these tasks could include building reciprocal relationships with indigenous elders and communities, supporting conference planning, answering emails, promoting events in person or over social media, hosting events online and in-person, creating guiding policy for COEO, writing grant applications, fundraising, advocacy work, communicating with students and staff at post-secondary institutions, and many more. Though some tasks are led by specific individuals (for example, the secretary generally takes minutes), the board supports each other and often works collaboratively on tasks.
Though we have role names that come from hierarchical structures (like president and vice-president), our decision making process is circular. We work collaboratively and each voting member's vote is equal on the board.
