The Communications Officer supports Posterity International’s external communications and organizational messaging, helping ensure that our work, perspectives, and impact are communicated clearly, consistently, and professionally across audiences.
Working across Posterity International and the Safe Survivor Initiative, the Communications Officer will develop written communications, support media and public relations efforts, and help translate organizational developments into compelling external messaging. This role works closely with leadership and collaborates with the research, marketing, social media, and graphic design teams.
Draft and edit organizational announcements, press releases, newsletters, website copy, statements, and other external communications
Support media outreach, including identifying relevant journalists, publications, podcasts, and other media opportunities
Develop media pitches and communications materials for organizational initiatives, campaigns, events, and major developments
Maintain and organize media contacts and outreach efforts
Support responses to media and external inquiries in coordination with organizational leadership
Develop talking points, key messages, organizational descriptions, and briefing materials
Help maintain a consistent organizational voice and messaging across Posterity International and the Safe Survivor Initiative
Collaborate with Research Assistants to ensure public-facing communications are accurate and evidence-based
Work with marketing, social media, and graphic design team members to coordinate communications around campaigns and organizational priorities
Identify opportunities to increase awareness of Posterity International’s work through earned media, external platforms, and strategic communications
Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
Background or demonstrated interest in communications, public relations, journalism, international affairs, nonprofit communications, or a related field
Ability to translate complex information into clear and engaging language for different audiences
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Sound judgment when communicating about sensitive humanitarian and human rights issues
Familiarity with media relations, newsletters, press releases, or communications strategy is preferred but not required
We are looking for a thoughtful and highly reliable communicator who understands that strong communications require both creativity and judgment. The ideal candidate takes initiative, communicates proactively, follows through on responsibilities, and produces polished work with close attention to accuracy, tone, and audience.
Because Posterity International works on sensitive issues involving conflict, displacement, violence, and survivors, candidates should also demonstrate care in how affected communities and their experiences are represented.
Hands-on experience developing communications for a growing international nonprofit
Experience with nonprofit communications, media relations, and public positioning
Opportunities to develop press releases, organizational messaging, newsletters, and other professional communications materials
Exposure to communications surrounding humanitarian, development, advocacy, and fundraising initiatives
Experience collaborating across research, marketing, social media, design, and organizational leadership
This is an unpaid, volunteer-based position. Posterity International is a growing nonprofit organization, and all team and board roles are currently structured as volunteer contributions in support of our mission.
