Founding Engineer (Pilot Phase)

Equity-First; High-Ownership; Immediate Start

BillCare is a venture-backed healthcare startup in an early pilot phase working to make medical bills and benefits easier to understand and act on. We founded the company because of the direct, first-hand frustration we had managing bills, benefits, and navigating the healthcare system while serving as caregivers. We’re preparing to launch a live employer pilot beginning on March 1st, and are looking for a Founding Engineer (Pilot Phase) to take technical ownership during this critical window. This is a 90-day, high-responsibility, high-visibility role focused on supporting a real product with real users — not a toy project or resume filler.

What you'll do:

1. Own and maintain an existing production codebase during a live pilot
2. Debug and ship improvements quickly as real users come onboard
3. Work closely with the founder on product decisions and prioritization
4. Be the technical point person if issues arise during the pilot

1. This is a high-ownership, fast-moving startup role
2. This role is equity-first during the pilot, with compensation decisions made post-pilot
3. This is a fast, lightweight interview process and an early, imperfect environment
Compensation & structure
1. Equity-first during the pilot period
2. Intent (but not guaranteed) to convert to paid compensation post-fundraise
3. Clear 90-day scope with a mutual decision point at the end
4. We’re looking for someone who can commit to seeing the pilot through end-to-end
