Responsible Individual (RI) Practice Programme in partnership with Protutorial and Anchor Social Care

This specialist in-person programme is delivered across three linked training sessions in Preston and is designed for Responsible Individuals (RIs) working within children’s residential care.

The course focuses on strengthening oversight, assurance and safeguarding practice, while supporting effective professional challenge and high-quality working relationships with Registered Managers.

Attendance at all three sessions is required to complete the programme and receive certification

This programme includes the following three sessions:

The RI–RM Relationship: Healthy Challenge A practical session exploring how Responsible Individuals can maintain supportive, positive relationships with Registered Managers while still providing firm, independent oversight. The session focuses on boundary-setting, confident professional conversations and recognising early signs of drift.

High-Quality Oversight & Assurance A focused session examining what strong RI oversight looks like in practice. It covers triangulating evidence, identifying cultural indicators within the home, testing the strength of systems and understanding what Ofsted expect RIs to know and track.

Safeguarding for RIs: Escalation & Minimisation A safeguarding-focused session providing clarity around escalation, threshold decision-making and patterns of risk that can be minimised or overlooked. It includes effective challenge, documentation expectations and escalation responsibilities.
