Fort Bend Youth Debate Officer Application Form

Please fill out this form if you are interested in applying for a coach or officer position for the 2026-2027 school year at Fort Bend Youth Debate Initiative.

This organisation started in 2018 to introduce middle schoolers to speech and debate. This form is to recruit high school coaches and officers in the Houston area to facilitate meetings/events and teach students around twice a month at Fort Settlement Middle School and Quail Valley Middle School. We teach around 170 students across the two schools. Link to our website: https://fortbendyouthdebate.org/ This application should take around 10 minutes.

Next year we expect to have 3 executive officer positions open: •Vice President - works with the Co-Presidents and manages all other operations that are delegated. Open to all current Freshmen or Sophomores.

•Outreach Coordinator - manages social media and website maintenance (two for the entire organisation). Showing up to in-person meetings is NOT required. •Fundraiser Coordinator & Workshop executive - Seeks ways to raise funds for FBYD and coordinates/manages FBYD workshops.

•Junior Officer - fill in for Coaching roles, and assisting in administrative duties (role open for FSMS & QVMS) - Commute to FSMS/QVMS every two weeks for Junior Officers is not required. You will show up when called for.

Curriculum director is a secondary role to your primary responsibilities as an executive officer or coach. You will be responsible for coordinating the development of event specific curriculum across school chapters.

How does applying benefit you?

You will earn volunteer hours for all the time you spend preparing and coaching. You will increase your network across schools, and this will be a great addition to a resume or college application. But most importantly, you will get to mentor middle schoolers in the activity we love the most!

Please keep in mind that if you apply and get the position, you will be committing to making lesson plans with your team, coming to your designated middle school once every two weeks for an hour, and attending the occasional coaches and executive officer meetings.

This application is due April 30th, 2026 @11:59 PM CDT, and interviews will tentatively start in June. We reach out to you by email if you are selected for an interview.
