The Boring Lab — Community Code of Conduct
The Boring Lab is built as a collaborative, discussion-driven learning environment for curious and ambitious students.
To maintain a healthy, respectful, and intellectually strong community, all students and families are expected to follow the guidelines below.
1. Respectful Communication
Students are expected to communicate respectfully with mentors, peers, guests, and team members at all times.
Healthy disagreement, debate, questioning, and discussion are encouraged. Personal attacks, mockery, bullying, harassment, or intentionally disrespectful behavior are not acceptable.
The goal is to create an environment where students feel safe thinking publicly, asking questions, presenting ideas, and expressing themselves confidently.
2. Participation & Engagement
The Boring Lab is designed as an active learning environment, not a passive classroom.
Students are encouraged to:
• participate in discussions
• contribute ideas
• ask questions
• present thoughts confidently
• collaborate with peers
• explore topics independently
Growth within the community depends heavily on curiosity, consistency, and willingness to engage.
3. Collaboration & Peer Culture
Students may occasionally work in pairs, research groups, project teams, or collaborative discussion formats.
Students are expected to:
• contribute fairly
• respect group members
• support collaborative learning
• avoid exclusionary behavior
• maintain a healthy and ambitious peer environment
The strength of the community depends on the quality of student interactions.
4. Device & Technology Usage
Laptops, tablets, mobile devices, AI tools, and digital platforms may be used during sessions for research, creation, presentations, and learning activities.
Students are expected to use technology responsibly and only for relevant session-related purposes during active learning hours.
Disruptive, distracting, inappropriate, or unsafe digital usage may result in warnings or restricted device access during sessions.
5. Academic Integrity & Original Thinking
Students are encouraged to research ideas, use AI tools responsibly, and learn from external sources.
However:
• plagiarism
• copying work dishonestly
• presenting others’ work as original
• misuse of AI-generated content
• intentionally misleading presentations
are strongly discouraged.
The goal of The Boring Lab is to develop independent thinking, not artificial performance.
6. Attendance & Consistency
Students are encouraged to attend sessions consistently and communicate in advance if they are unable to participate.
As the environment is discussion-driven and collaborative, repeated absence may affect both individual growth and group continuity.
7. Safety & Community Environment
Students are expected to maintain a safe, respectful, and comfortable environment for everyone involved.
Unsafe, threatening, discriminatory, intentionally disruptive, or harmful behavior may lead to:
• verbal guidance
• parent communication
• temporary suspension
• removal from the cohort if necessary
The Boring Lab reserves the right to protect the integrity and safety of the learning environment.
8. Confidentiality & Trust
Students are encouraged to respect the privacy of peers during discussions, presentations, and collaborative activities.
Internal conversations, unfinished ideas, personal stories, and student discussions should be treated respectfully.
The goal is to build a trusted environment where students feel comfortable exploring ideas openly.
Parents are encouraged to support:
• curiosity
• communication
• independent thinking
• experimentation
• long-term development
The Boring Lab may not always operate like traditional academic environments or tuition systems.
Growth may appear through:
• confidence
• articulation
• initiative
• communication
• research ability
• presentation quality
• intellectual maturity
rather than short-term academic metrics alone.
The Boring Lab is intentionally built as a focused, collaborative, and high-quality environment.
To protect the experience of all students, The Boring Lab reserves the right to pause or discontinue participation if repeated behavior from students or parents significantly disrupts the culture, safety, or integrity of the community.
I confirm that I have read and understood The Boring Lab Community Code of Conduct and agree to follow the expectations outlined above.
