Biotadex: Australian wildlife index Project

G’day, I’m Tom 👋

I’m building Biotadex: A Pokémon-style online index of Australian native animals (mammals, birds, insects, reptiles… everything).

Why?
Being a Millennial, when I was a kid I was lucky enough to experience the release of the first Pokémon games. One of the most magical parts of Pokémon Blue for me was reading about the facts or bio of each Pokémon I captured.

Pokémon has continued to grow since it's release to become the highest grossing media franchise of all time. Kids know so much about Pokémon — often more than the incredible real-world wildlife around them.

I was also lucky enough that my grandma bought me a subscription to Wildlife Fact Files - giant binders packed with A4 fact sheets of real animals. It was basically a real-life Pokédex, and I loved it.

We have iNaturalist (it’s awesome), but I want to build something simpler, more playful, and family-friendly. A place where kids and adults can explore, learn cool traits and behaviours, and fall in love with our native animals.

So that is the why and now I have a favour to ask:

I would love for you to help shape this project to create an amazing educational resource for families.
