Back-end Automation Engineer

At Stonewell, we work with ambitious entrepreneurs around the globe, delivering pragmatic, high-value AI solutions, automations, and smart software products. Our clients move fast and expect excellence, and we do too. We’re looking for a quality-driven, hard-working, and experienced Back-end Automation Engineer who thrives in high-growth environments and takes full ownership of delivering successful projects for our clients.

What you’ll be doing:
Map out project plans and solution architectures, working closely with the Team Lead to translate client needs into scalable, maintainable software solutions.
Design, build and maintain back-end automations, leveraging platforms like n8n (if possible), as well custom code within VSCode. Integrate third-party tools and services using their respective APIs, ensuring reliability, performance, and security (e.g., AWS Lambda).
Integrate and set up (vector) databases, as well as leverage AI components (primarily LLMs; often without extensive fine-tuning or traditional ML) where applicable.
Take ownership of automation workflows end-to-end, from concept and implementation to testing, deployment, and iteration.
Document architectures, workflows, and integrations to support long-term maintainability and knowledge sharing.

Who we're looking for:
3+ years of experience as a back-end software engineer.
1–2+ years of hands-on experience working with AI infrastructure and related systems.
Experience in designing and maintaining scalable back-end systems, automations, and integrations.
Comfortable working with documented APIs, third-party services, and database technologies (including vector databases).
Communicates professionally and clearly with clients, is responsive and reliable, and consistently puts project success first.
Proactive, takes ownership, has strong problem-solving skills, and gets things done
Enjoys communicating directly with clients, is invested in their success, and likes solving real-world problems for successful businesses.
Thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment, with flexibility and a strong sense of responsibility.
Available to work during Dutch office hours (8:00–18:00 Amsterdam time).
Fluent in English; Dutch is a plus.
