Palestinian voices are increasingly marginalized in Germany – in political debates, media portrayals, and at universities. This panel brings together psychological and experience-based perspectives and asks: How do discriminatory narratives emerge, how do they operate institutionally – and what does this mean for fundamental rights, freedom of expression, and democratic spaces?
The goal of the panel is to make structures visible, take experiential knowledge seriously, and open a space for a differentiated and discrimination-sensitive debate. Together with the audience, we aim to explore how solidarity can look without pitting fundamental rights against each other, and how universities, institutions, and civil society can take responsibility to dismantle discrimination and protect democratic spaces.
While the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Court, and the United Nations document and assess the illegality of the occupation under international law as well as the ongoing serious crimes in Gaza, the question of the co-responsibility of universities and companies is gaining increasing urgency. This panel brings together scholars and lawyers to examine the obligations of German universities under international and national law and to highlight the legal consequences of cooperation with institutions involved in violations of international humanitarian law.
