Participant for AWCS Member Discussion Groups

AWCS is organizing discussion groups, inviting members to share what kinds of support they need to build their craft and to be in community. This project allows us to understand how we can best support our members. In addition to focused discussions, the sessions will include guided creative and playful activities.

These sessions will be community-centred, encouraging open conversations rather than formal interviews. We are running online and in person sessions across Alberta.

We are looking for members willing to participate in these discussion groups.

As participants, you:

- must be willing to share their thoughts and experiences as a writer within the AWCS Community.

- are open to participating in sessions with gentle and considerate conversations about support systems writers are looking for, expectations, systemic barriers, and considerations on inclusion and equity while developing craft.

- Have questions on how to make the most out of being a member of AWCS and on how to build community and hone your writing practice

The sessions are social gatherings, divided into the following segments:

Focus group - conversations to gather insights and identify what members value

Consultation - opportunity for attendees to ask questions about AWCS programs and services, how to make the most of your membership and receive guidance on improving craft and building community

Creative play - the sessions will include a number of arts and crafts activities such as creative journaling, zine-making, redacted and found poetry, and other make-and-take activities.

Refreshments will be provided during the sessions.

We encourage participation from members of all backgrounds and communities of diverse gender, race, and abilities.

If you have any questions about being a participant or volunteer, contact Precious at pdeleon@alexandrawriters.org.
